Relaxing in a rooftop pool is something you can only do in fancy, but extortionate, five-star hotels right? Wrong! In Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia‘s buzzing capital city, there are a huge number of ordinary-looking skyscrapers with little oases of luxury hidden at the top.
You don’t need to book anywhere expensive in KL to experience this. We had simply booked an airbnb in a residential apartment block, where it’s common in KL to find a rooftop pool shared between all the residents of the building. A very welcome respite from the heat of the day, and you’ll feel like a million dollars as you gaze over the city around you.
A trip to the 29th floor (gulp) became part of my everyday morning routine when we stayed in KL. Every morning I’d take the lift up to dizzying heights, before plunging into a beautifully cool and serene pool on the top of our building. This moment of calm at the beginning of the day was the perfect preparation for taking on such a big busy city.
I honestly cannot recommend a better way to experience Kuala Lumpur than this. Nothing beats floating in cool water in the still of the morning, looking out over the city’s famous skyline, framed by the distinctive Petronas Towers.
