Where to eat in Byron Bay is a very important question. If you’re only visiting for a short time you do not want to miss out on any of the awesome foodie places this Aussie gem has to offer. There are many reasons to visit Byron Bay – the sun, the surf, the chilled out vibes… but all this fun also requires some good nosh to keep you fuelled up! And don’t fret – the food in Byron Bay is fantastic. Read on for some of my favourites:
Brekkie / Brunch:
The Top Shop
This is where you’ll find some of the best coffee in Byron. Conveniently located a 1 minute walk from our gorgeous airbnb, Bask & Stow, we were regulars at The Top Shop every morning during our stay. Opening at 6.30am every day of the week, this is the perfect place to pick up a flat white and a pastry before a morning surf. An old 1950’s milk bar, it’s a chilled out place to hang out, with a couple of large wooden tables outside. They also do brunch, sandwiches, delicious bacon and egg rolls and top-notch burgers.
Bay Leaf
An all-day affair, make sure to get there early to snag a table as they go fast! Bay Leaf is your place for that classic Byron Bay brunch. Delicious, healthy and all washed down with your choice of detoxing or protein-packed smoothie. Their scrambled eggs with feta are famous and a must-try. The sweet potato flatbread is divine and the brekkie greens will almost have you convinced that you’ve been reborn as a healthy, glowing Byron Bae! Working closely with local suppliers around the region, you can be sure that the food is always of the best quality.
Combi
Another banging brunch place. Combi serves up some delicious takes on the classics – my favourite was their poached eggs on pesto crumpets – yum! Not feeling super hungry? Fuel up on one of their delicious smoothies instead. Family-owned and using only organic, locally-sourced produce, Combi is good for the soul as well as a scrummy treat.
Folk
Nestled in the trees next to a campground slightly out of town, Folk is well worth the extra trip. Tucked in a small wooden building with a lovely cool seating area in the garden, Folk is the perfect escape from the heat outside. The menu is predominantly plant-based, but you won’t be going hungry. Packed full of healthy goodies, even just their smoothies are a meal in themselves! If you do have room for more, there’s a delicious range of mains from banana hotcakes to soba noodle salad to roast pumpkin burrito… something for everyone!
Dinner
Daughter in Law
This place is just wow. Self-described as “Unauthentic Australian Indian”, Daughter in Law serves up a colourful eye-popping extravaganza of a feast. I highly recommend just going for the Banquet Menu so that you can sample a little bit of all the best flavours. Their twist on ceviche is to die for. The Indo-Chinese cauliflower will ensure you’ll never look at this humble vegetable the same way again. Make sure you arrive with a good appetite! Oh and did I mention that they have an excellent cocktail menu…? (Feeling more like a night in? They offer takeaway too).
Three Blue Ducks
If you’re looking for a romantic evening look no further – Three Blue Ducks at The Farm is absolute perfection. A little bit out of town, this beauty is set on a real working farm surrounded by Macadamia orchards. We ate a plate of oysters with a glass of Australian white wine and followed by the roast pork with crackling – absolutely divine! The relaxed barn setting with chilled out live music made the evening a real treat.
No Bones
Vegans – don’t fret – this one is for you! Although some of the dishes e.g. the “calamari” are so good that they taste suspiciously like the real deal, No Bones is assuredly all vegan. With an aim to become 100% carbon neutral and use only locally-sourced produce where possible, visiting No Bones will make you feel like a bit of a saint. They also serve up some darn good cocktails.
